Favorite Concert Moment:
I have a definite answer for this. Ryan Adams, solo show, Tabernacle Theatre, Atlanta GA, Fall 2002. This was the first time I had ever seen him play. During the show, Ryan was just rotating from one instrument to the next, drinking wine and smoking cigarettes the whole time. Then he picked up an acoustic guitar and stared playing, stopped 2 measures into a song (La Cienega Just Smiled) and said “This song sounds a lot better if someone plays piano on it too.” At that moment, totally unannounced, Elton John walks onstage, sits down at the piano and just starts throwing down. The auditorium never recovered after that. People were crying, I thought one dude was going to jump off the balcony, I was screaming on the phone with my Dad . . . I still get chills thinking about that.
Favorite Guv’nahs Concert:
Our first show at the Preservation Pub. It was the first time people really came to hear us and liked our music. I’ll never forget everyone dancing and screaming after our songs. It was the best feeling in the world.
Favorite Quote:
“In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing. We lived at the junction of great trout rivers in western Montana, and our father was a Presbyterian minister and a fly fisherman who tied his own flies and taught others. He told us about Christ’s disciples being fishermen, and we were left to assume, as my brother and I did, that all first-class fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly fishermen and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman.” – Norman Maclean, “A River Runs Through It”
Dream Concert Location For The Guv’s:
The Filmore (San Francisco)
Who Would You Most Want To Go On Tour With?
Probably The Stones. Or U2. Either way we’d be playing in front of like 100,000 people every night.
